The Tacheles

The Tacheles opened in January 2021 in the premises of the former "Café Central" at the Sternstrasse 30. Since then, a lot has happened, and the former pub has become a place where exhibitions, consultations, concerts and NGO meetings take place.

The concept of the Kiezladen

With the Tacheles, we want to create a open space that offers people the opportunity to meet, besides the tramstation, exchange ideas and support each other - right in the urban center of the city and without economic barriers.

The daily encounter of people with different everyday practices and realities of life can be on the one hand a cause for conflicts, on the other hand, this diversity also holds great potential for a lively and mutually supportive neighborhood.

We want to #platzmachen(#makeroom) - for residents and visitors of the "Hassel", for socially and politically engaged people, for people interested in culture and people how make culture of any age. But especially for people who otherwise usually have to fight for their space, because they are affected by discrimination and structural disadvantage in public spaces.

To achieve this, we need to move closer together and take a closer look! We want to promote a constant exchange and networking of neighbors and actors in social life and thus strengthen social cohesion and contribute in the long term to ensuring that the interests of those who receive little attention in public discourse are also heard. We want to deal critically with our own and previously foreign realities of life, listen to each other and learn from each other. The Kiezladen is intended to serve as a place where we can practically experience solidarity and make it visible in public space.

Who is allowed in - and who is not

Open and protected at the same time? We dare to perform the balancing act, because a room is only truly open when people can treat each other with respect and feel safe. We want to take discrimination seriously, deal with it and give people affected by it the opportunity to appropriate the space. Therefore we especially invite BIPoC* and FLINTA* people to participate in the design of the space, to get involved and to implement their own projects.

Here is #no place for racism, LGBTQI* hostility, anti-Semitism, sexism, anti-gypsyism, Islamophobia, fascism or hatespeech. In addition, we want to provide barrier-free access for people with disabilities. For any group-related misanthropy you are wrong here!
